I have almost convinced them that free or cheap IPTV options are good enough. My relative needs to go cheap, and their TV and computer aren't in the same room. Pretty good, compared to some of the others, but expensive, and rapidly getting more so. Also odd that it is so hard to use on small screen Android phones. Besides, that isn't a portable solution - and one advantage of the Spectrum TV app over cable boxes and DVR's is that one can use it on a mobile device. Besides, with Series 3 boxes, one would need 2 cable cards, and service for both, to record 2 programs at once. A series 3 box worked with some cable companies, using a 'cable card', but when I asked, Spectrum where my relative lives doesn't lease cable cards - though I thought the FCC requires them to. It used to be that Series 2 boxes could stream video over the Internet - but they gradually killed that off. I have 'lifetime subscriptions', but that's useless, because antennas don't work well where I live. I was able to contact Tivo support because I have old Tivo Series 2 and Series 3 boxes. Some Google Play Store apps don't work on the Tivo Stream 4K - including Spectrum TV, which works on some Android phones, tablets, and Android TV devices. I noticed from web pages that 'Chromecast with Google' does not support Spectrum TV, except as a cast from a phone - which is a nuisance, and I assume would also limit screen resolution and speed. Spectrum's tech support is essentially useless. The app works with some difficulty on a new Lenova Tab 8 (8' tablet), though it has some of the same problems as the S5 phone.

Spectrum TV works on sufficiently powerful large screen powerful Windows and Ubuntu Linux PCs, under Chrome browser, but that's expensive and hard to ship, and Linux may be too hard for my relative to use. It sort of runs on a Samsung Galaxy S5 Android phone, but is hard to use due to screen size and coverage - you have to keep guessing what is covered up on the screen, and also zoom and pan a lot. Spectrum's web page says Spectrum TV runs on Android 5 or later, but it dies with an error on a small screen Android 5.x phone, and an Android 5.1.1 TV box.
